It's Time
Living out the purposes of God in our generation

by Derek

Esther: 4:12-14

Esther was chosen by the king, she was also chosen by God… Mordecai’s challenge to her was to ask her to consider that perhaps it could be that she was born, or born into royalty for such a time as this. That, unbeknownst to her, she was not just being prepared for the king, but for the task of the Lord as well.

She was admonished by Mordecai, God can raise up someone else, but there would be consequences. Esther could refuse but she was in the right place at the right time! Was it coincidence or God-incidence?

Esther had a decision to make that could cost her life, was she there for a purpose? Was she born for such a time as this? Was she chosen to serve the purpose of God in her generation?

The only way she would find out was to go into the presence of the king and deliver the message she was given… even if it cost her life!

Acts 13:36

pur·pose (pûrps)

n.

1. The object toward which one strives or for which something exists; an aim or a goal: "And ever those, who would enjoyment gain/Must find it in the purpose they pursue" (Sarah Josepha Hale).

2. A result or effect that is intended or desired; an intention. See Synonyms at intention.

3. Determination; resolution: He was a man of purpose.

4. The matter at hand; the point at issue.

But purpose without God has no lasting value – There is a reason why Rick Warren’s book ‘Purpose driven Life’ was a world’s best seller!

The Westminster Shorter Catechism
Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?

A. Man's chief end is to glorify God, [a] and to enjoy him for ever. [b]

[a]. Ps. 86:9; Isa. 60:21; Rom. 11:36; I Cor. 6:20; 10:31; Rev. 4:11

[b]. Ps. 16:5-11; 144:15; Isa. 12:2; Luke 2:10; Phil. 4:4; Rev. 21:3-4

We were made for God!

Our Purpose starts with God - Colossians 1:16 from the Message version. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below visible and invisible… everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.

It starts with God so that our lives can in turn express God and his purpose…

Psalm 139: 13-17  You are not a mistake, God designed you, he knit you together in his love, he knows every stitch that’s gone into forming you

God purposed you… out of that (knit into the fibre of your being) comes your purpose in life

FB: Karen – Fear to be what God’s called us to be. Fear of change… fear that  God’s plan for you is bad, seen through your eyes and not his, you may feel that if you were God you would think that you don’t deserve better…

A youtube comment to Ps 139:

6 days ago - I wish I could live forever, so that I could hate God forever. No eye hath seen nor ear heard what God has in store for me. I`m certain it`s going to be utterly horrifying. Beyond imagining. Why ? Because It ( God ) is Evil !
And it is only going to do to me what I would do to It and all human beings if I were It !

Eph 1:11-12 [Message]

Romans 12:3 [Msg] What God is and what he has done for us describes our lives

FB Pete: If we could really understand God's heart for the lost (He died for the lost) then it would always be "It's time". Also the winter is past and spring is on the horizon. When we see the lost as people in the winter where life is on hold then we who have life (spring) should want to give the lost the option to life as well.
What I'm saying is that there's lots to inspire us to go out and tell the world about Jesus

Ally: the song ‘it’s Time’ … there is a story to be told!

It is Time! Because God is! It has been Time since Jesus died for us! It is time to realise who God is and who he has made us to be!

Rom 13:11  And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

[Message] Rom 13:11-14  But make sure that you don't get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God.  (12)  The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed.  (13)  We can't afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight.  (14)  Get out of bed and get dressed! Don't loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!

Summary:

It’s Time-

  1. to realise who you are in Christ
  2. to realise God has a purpose for your life
  3. to Glorify God and enjoy Him in the journey
  4. that your wonderfully made life has a story to be told

It’s time to ‘Get out of bed and get dressed! Don't loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!’
