The power of serving
Greatness in the Kingdom of God

You Tube clips on serving:
Serving others
Dr Martin Luther King jr. Serving

Mar 10:43 -45 Not so with you.

Luk 22:26 -27 But you are not to be like that.

Joh 13:1-5 (3) Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; (4) so he got up from the meal, took

Joh 13:14-15

Jesus set this example of servanthood knowing his hour had come [Principle: No matter how bad things are going for us, we have no excuse for not serving others. Betrayal - Principle: The presence of evil did not hinder love.]

Php 2:1-8 (3) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. (4) Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. (5) Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: (8) And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!

Humility is not denying your strengths. Humility is being honest about your weaknesses.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Col. 3:24 (NIV)

(Jesus) “Whatever you have done for the humblest of My brothers, you have done for Me!” Matt. 25:40 (Ph)

Jesus is saying that leadership is not a matter of getting people to serve you but leadership is a matter of serving them.

A SERVANT SEES SERVICE AS AN OPPORTUNITY, NOT AS AN OBLIGATION

A servant is motivated by what God thinks, not what others think. Galatians 1:10 Paul says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of men or God. If I were trying to please men, I would not be the servant of Christ.” I have to ask myself, “What motivates me to serve?”

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACCEPTANCE AND APPROVAL

In the words of Mother Teresa,
“We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”
Morsch*
1) Everyone has something to give.
2) Everyone is willing to give when they see the need and have the opportunity.
3) Everyone can do something for someone right now.

What’s in your heart? (What compels you? What motivates you?)
What’s in your hand?
What did you do with what you were given? Use what’s in your hand (you feed them)
Luke 22:24 A dispute also started among them over which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.

Willing to get your hands dirty… for God and for others
2Cor 5 14-15 For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Greatness in the Kingdom is not based on our stature in this world, or on our abilities or lack thereof it is based on our willingness to serve… all of the children of God have an ability to serve… therefore all have the ability to be great.
“Servant… new definition of greatness… everybody can be great because everyone can serve… you only need a heart full of grace”…Martin Luther King [see Video Clip]
